The Acorn Building
The Acorn Building is a new, bright, modern and comfortable space in which the local community can learn and play.
It will host an exciting programme of events for local residents of all ages (once coronavirus permits) as well as being available for hire, and is also a new home for the 'Outstanding' Horringer Pre-School.
The new building has fantastic new facilities, including:
a much bigger, lighter and more comfortable main room, with air conditioning for the summer and more efficient heating for the winter
windows and doors directly onto our wooded copse, enabling lovely views, and easy access between the inside and outside
new secure perimeter fencing and electric gate, to ensure the safety of all our visitors, including those using the copse (the copse fencing has already been installed)
fantastic facilities for those with disabilities or Special Educational Needs, including excellent access into and throughout the building and into our copse, a larger disabled toilet, and a new Sensory Room
a well-equipped kitchen, available for community use with the building, including child-level sinks
a lockable office for the Pre-School Manager (to provide a private space for meetings, plus keep children's data separate from the main area to be hired out)
plus a more open lobby, easily accessible storage, and three new child-size toilets.
Planned future events
We are very excited about some planned events and activities that will be launched once coronavirus permits! These are intended to provide the local community with opportunities for intergenerational interaction and lifelong learning, building skills and reducing social isolation.
Planned events include:
a Cooking Club kindly run by the Horringer WI for local children
a Gardening Club kindly run by the Horringer Gardening club for local children
a Nature Wellbeing Club kindly run by Nature Wellbeing Consultant Tina Gibbons in our lovely copse.
Unfortunately, launching most of our planned events has been put on hold because of coronavirus, but we hope to launch them as soon as is permitted. More information will be available nearer the time! (Fees will apply.)
However, as it is an outside space, our copse is now available for hire by the local community!
Our first event was a Forest School Camp on Wednesday 28th October (please see our News page for more information).
If you'd like to hold a club or event in our lovely new building or copse, please get in touch with Ruth Walker.
'Forest School' fun in the copse:
The Acorn Building will be available to the community for hire, once permitted due to coronavirus. Hire times:
4pm to 10pm on weekdays during term-time
8am to 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays
8am to 10pm on bank holidays and school holidays
You will be able to book use of the Acorn Building via our online calendar (to be set up on this website, once it is open to the public).
If you would like to hire our copse, please get in touch with Ruth Walker, our Building Manager.
Our new building will provide an amazing new home for Horringer Pre-School, already rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.
It will provide fantastic facilities, with even more opportunities for learning through play, through new child-level sinks and work areas, plus free-flow play between the copse, the play garden, and the inside space.
There are limited spaces available for Autumn Term 2020 (joining after half term).
